2 – 4″ of snow expected to fall Sunday in the Quad Cities
Warmer temperatures are coming to the Quad Cities, but we also will most likely see another round of snowfall this weekend. Some areas could see 2 - 4" of snow on Sunday with highs back in the 30's.
We told you earlier this week that warmer weather was on its way to the Quad Cities. By warmer weather, of course we mean not below 0°, and not below freezing (32°).
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) of the Quad Cities, the last week of February is trending towards above normal temperatures. Iowa and Illinois both have a greater than 40% probably of those temps being warmer than normal between February 23 to March 1. So that is something to look forward to!
Even though the good news is that it's getting warmer, the bad news is that we are still in winter and snow still wants to fall from the sky.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) of the Quad Cities, there is potential for several inches of accumulating snow that will fall across portions of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois Sunday morning through Sunday night.
While right now it is too early to determine more accurate and exact amounts, the NWS is predicting 2 - 4" of snow Sunday afternoon.
With the temperatures rising, this snow is expected to be a wet snow. The immediate Quad Cities metro has a 58% chance of seeing 2" of greater of snow. That percentage chance increases in Clinton, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Linn, Washington and Cedar counties.
As of right now, the NWS of the Quad Cities' forecast for Sunday to Sunday night is:
- Sunday
- Snow likely, mainly after noon.
- Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33.
- Chance of precipitation is 70%.
- New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
- Sunday Night
- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22.
We will keep you up to date on this system as we get closer to Sunday.
