Here we go again. It's spring time in the Quad Cities and the Mississippi River is on the rise.
Flooding is already occurring on the riverfront in downtown Davenport. LeClaire Park is already entirely under water, the park below the Skybridge is starting to see sitting water and covering the entire sidewalk along the steel fence looking over the river, and there is sitting water in the new parking lots along River Drive and Perry Street.
As the river rises, Davenport Public Works is already putting HESCO barriers in place. The barriers begin at Perry Street and go over to Iowa Street, forcing River Drive to be closed from Brady Street to East 4th Street. so far.
Davenport Public Works announced on Tuesday that the river is expected to rise to 17.5 feet, 2.5 feet above flood stage, by Friday, April 10th. Depending on the weather and how much more rain we get north of the Quad Cities, that could cause more lane closures which would extend from Bridge Ave to Division Street.
Wednesday, I went downtown to see the flooding and HESCO barriers for myself. Thank you to Davenport Pubic Works for working hard protecting downtown Davenport!
Below is a map of where these photos were taken.
