Time to Adopt a Doggo: Humane Society at ‘Crisis Capacity’ with Dogs
The Humane Society of Scott County is at 'crisis capacity' with their dogs so if you can adopt or foster a pup, now is the time to do it.
The shelter can handle 71 dogs, but they're currently holding 81, as Development Coordinator Celina Rippel told Our Quad Cities. When I was at the humane society last Saturday to adopt my new kitty, I saw two stray dogs brought into the shelter just within the few minutes I was there.
How You Can Help
- Adopt. Next week, the Humane Society of Scott County will host 'Empty the Shelter' with reduced adoption rates on their pets (This program is national and I so recommend it, it's a deal. This is also how I convinced my landlord to let me get my first cat.) Meet the dogs up for adoption at this link.
- Foster. If you're not ready to make it permanent, you can foster a dog. Their 'foster to adopt' program is helpful before finalizing an adoption to make sure it's a good fit for you and the pup. You'll get the necessities to help with the transition and the fee to foster is much lower than adoption. There are four kinds of foster homes: neonatal, behavioral, hospice, and recovery (in which the HSSC will pay for medical costs). You can get details and apply to be a foster pet parent here.
The shelter also recommends that if you or someone you know is looking for a lost pet, have them stop by the Humane Society of Scott County.
