Hy-Vee announced today that their pharmacies are now offering test-to-treat services for those who are positive for COVID-19.

In a release, Hy-Vee said it will use the COVID antiviral drug PAXLOVID to help treat mild-to-moderate cases of COVID in patients who are 12 years old and up and are at high risk for their COVID case to worsen.

In order to be prescribed PAXLOVID, Hy-Vee says a patient must test positive for COVID. There are a few rapid tests you could take at select Hy-Vee pharmacies by appointment and you can get over-the-counter COVID tests at any Hy-Vee pharmacy.

After a positive COVID test, you will be screened by a state-licensed Hy-Vee pharmacist to determine your eligibility for PAXLOVID.

To help with the screening process, here's what you would need to bring:

  • Date/proof of positive test result
  • Electronic or printed health records less than 12 months old, including the most recent reports of lab blood work for the pharmacist to review for kidney or liver problems.
  • •A list of all medications they are taking, including over-the-counter medications. That list will be used to screen for drugs that may have serious interactions with PAXLOVID.

It's recommended that COVID antiviral treatment starts within five days of showing symptoms. The antivirals are free with most insurance. The release says COVID-19 antiviral patients have to wear a mask when inside the store.

If you need to get tested or to learn more, visit a Hy-Vee pharmacy. Most Hy-Vee pharmacies are open 7 days a week.
