Iowa’s Bowl Game Could Be In Jeopardy
The University of Iowa is scheduled to play Missouri in the 2020 TransPerfect Music City Bowl on Dec. 30 in Nashville, Tennessee. And for the first time this year, you could watch the Hawkeyes in person as they will be selling a limited amount of tickets to the game.
However, before you buy those tickets, you should know the latest developments from the University of Iowa involving COVID-19. The football team has paused all in person activities after an increase in positive test results.
Director of Athletics Gary Barta said in a statement on December 21:
“As I shared this morning, last week we experienced an increase in positives cases within our football program. Our student-athletes returned to testing today and based on additional positive tests and contact tracing, our medical team has made the decision to pause in-person activities for a minimum of five days. We will continue to follow Big Ten Conference medical protocol and participate in daily rapid antigen testing. Based on the information we have available today, we feel confident in our ability to participate in the TransPerfect Music City bowl.”
Head Coach Kirk Ferentz added:
“Late this afternoon I met with our Player Leadership Group and they overwhelmingly want to play in the bowl game. We will continue to prepare and put our game plan together for the TransPerfect Music City Bowl using the technology we have available. While our first priority is the health and safety of our players and staff, our goal is to play and compete on Dec. 30.”
While the team states that it is confident to play, the players want to play in the game, ultimately it may not be up to them. If the positivity rate continues to rise and Iowa, Missouri or the NCAA determine the game would be played in unsafe conditions it could be canceled. The NCAA has all the bowl updates right here.
