Illinois Suddenly 1 of the Worst States for Fatal Car Accidents
There are few things worse in this world than getting that terrible phone call that a loved one has been lost in a car accident. Sadly, the state of Illinois is suddenly one of the worst states for this unnecessary tragedy.
I saw this new ranking just shared by World Population Review as it ranks the states for the number of fatal car accidents. The number of lives lost on Illinois highways is staggering.
Illinois rank 8th in America for the number of deaths and the number of crashes that result in fatalities. Illinois has recorded 1,087 crashes and 1,194 deaths as a result. These crashes were the result of "speeding, intoxication, distracted driving, auto defects, and bad weather" according to the rankings.
Why are there so many vehicular fatalities in Illinois?
Illinois has so many different types of areas that drivers travel through. You have the very busy interstates in the northern half of the state and rural areas with many two-lane highways in the southern half of Illinois. Add to those factors the very unpredictable weather in Illinois and you have a recipe for disaster.
The advance of technology isn't helping with smartphone distractions making dangerous travel all the more difficult and the numbers prove it.
