The FBI in Illinois is serious about bringing violent street gangs to justice as 3 allegedly connected to one of those groups have now been charged with numerous crimes including murder and carjackings.

The Chicago office of the FBI shared this status update on their Facebook page today.

The press release on the Department of Justice's website gives more specifics about what these charges involve and who they are against. They allege that the following 3 individuals were responsible for crimes connected to the Spanish Gangster Disciples.

  • EDSON RESENDEZ
  • MAVERICK CELA
  • PREZILA APREZA

The charges allege that those 3 were involved in "three murders, two attempted murders, four carjackings, an attempted carjacking, and an act of arson" during a 2-week period in 2020.

"The FBI is committed to eradicating neighborhood street gangs and the violence unleashed in our communities,” said FBI Chicago SAC DePodesta.  “This investigation is just one of many cases worked by FBI Chicago’s Violent Crime Task Force along with our dedicated Task Force Officers (TFOs) and local law enforcement partners.  We remain united in using all available resources to ensure that groups like these can no longer harm Chicago’s residents.”

The Chicago office of the FBI emphasizes that these charges are allegations and not proof of guilt until these 3 have been tried in a court of law.
