The meteorologists have just confirmed what storm chasers have been warning about for days. Missouri and Illinois are now both officially in the warned area where extensive thunderstorm development is expected later this week.

A few days ago, I passed along severe weather that many storm chasers are expecting near the end of this week. Today, the forecasters at NOAA's Storm Prediction Center have confirmed their concerns. Both Missouri and Illinois are in the advisory area where severe thunderstorms are expected to develop.

When are severe storms expected in Missouri and Illinois?

The exact words of the meteorologists at NOAA's Storm Prediction Center show that they are concerned about what the end of the week is looking like for Missouri and Illinois:

"extensive thunderstorm development is anticipated Friday afternoon/evening"

They say the "deep cyclone" over Kansas will weaken, but storms will begin to strengthen as they move to the northeast which translates into Missouri and Illinois again being the breeding ground for potential strong storms which are expected to include powerful winds, big hail and tornadoes are a definite possibility.

This is another week where you'll need to be weather aware if you live in Missouri or Illinois and/or plan to travel through either state on Friday. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings from the National Weather Service if severe storms do develop.
