A young Iowa girl who developed a close relationship with Caitlin Clark and the Iowa women's basketball team has sadly passed away.

Bailey Lux was diagnosed with a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Tumor Sarcoma in September of 2022. She went through radiation treatments and surgeries in 2022 and 2023. According to her obituary, she was cancer-free until February of 2024 when she was diagnosed with inoperable tumors. After a long and courageous battle, Bailey Lux joined her mother in heaven on August 28th. She was just 14 years old.

Sports Illustrated reports that Bailey loved the Iowa women's basketball team, especially stars Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin. Her Make-A-Wish dream was to spend time with both of them despite the fact they now played for different teams in the WNBA. In early July, SI reported that the Fever and Aces met in Indianapolis and Bailey's dream came true! She got to hang out with Caitlin and Kate prior to the game between the Fever and the Aces.

The trip meant the world to Bailey and her family. But you could also tell the experience had a profound effect on Caitlin Clark. Prior to the game against Las Vegas, Clark talked about what a privilege it was to be part of Bailey's wish.

News of Bailey's passing broke just before the Indiana Fever played the Chicago Sky last Friday according to SI. Services for Bailey were yesterday in Carroll, Iowa. In true Iowa fashion, attendees were encouraged to wear Iowa Hawkeye gear. A true Hawkeye fan to the very end. We send Bailey's family our comfort and prayers during this difficult time.
