Two More Bulldogs Leaving Drake For Iowa Basketball
When Ben McCollum took over the Iowa men's basketball program, many Hawkeye fans wondered how some of his top Drake players would look in black and gold. Two more Drake players have confirmed that they will follow their old head coach and play for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa fans were already over the moon excited when McCollum got his Missouri Valley Player of the Year point guard Bennett Stirtz to commit to Iowa. Now, two more of McCollums top Drake players have confirmed that they'll be Hawkeyes next season.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that 6'8" forward Cam Manyawu will join McCollum at Iowa. The junior to be started all 35 games for a Drake team that went 31-4. He averaged 7 points per game but led the Bulldogs in rebounds and blocked shots. He should be a nice inside presence for the Hawkeyes.
The Gazette reports the second Bulldog to commit to Iowa is 6'4" guard Kael Combs. Combs played with Manyawu at Wyoming before they both transferred to Drake. Now, both are Iowa Hawkeyes. Combs played in 31 games for Drake last year and scored a career-high 13 points against Texas Tech in the NCAA Tournament according to the Gazette. Combs also has two years of eligibility remaining at Iowa.
While the stats for both of these players might not jump off the page, both already know the system and culture that coach McCollum is trying to bring to Iowa. I can't wait to see them both suit up in the black and gold soon!
