Hawkeyes Win Big Ten Opener at the Buzzer! [VIDEO]
The Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball team hasn't won a Big Ten opener since 2020. Last night, they were less than one second away from dropping another. But Tuesday night would not be one of those nights thanks to some last-second heroics from Iowa guard Josh Dix.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that with Iowa trailing by two to Northwestern with just eight-tenths of a second left Josh Dix hit a 30-foot three-point bomb to save Iowa from another Big Ten opening defeat.
After the game, Dix said what shooters usually say when big shots go in. He stated that "It felt good", and "it felt like it was straight" according to the Gazette. Coach Fran McCaffery agreed saying that it looked good "right when it left his hand." Dix led the way for Iowa with 22 points and Payton Sandfort had 20.
The Hawkeyes led for much of the first half, by as many as 17 points according to the Gazette. But the Wildcats got it going in the second half and led by six points with 2 minutes left in the game. But Northwestern would wind up losing for the 10th straight time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa's next game will also be a Big Ten matchup. The Hawkeyes travel to Michigan on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game can be seen on FS1. LET'S GO HAWKS!
