Former Hawkeye Running Back Traded to Green Bay
The preseason is over, and the NFL regular season is just over one week away. Not the time you want to worry about your starting running back position. But the Green Bay Packers have added a former University of Iowa tailback due to the team's starter facing ongoing legal issues.
Kaleb Johnson Traded to Green Bay
NFL.com reports that the Packers sent a 2028 sixth-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in exchange for former Iowa Hawkeye running back Kaleb Johnson. Johnson was the 83rd pick overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, but had a rough rookie season. Johnson had just 28 carries for 69 yards, according to NFL.com.
Why Did Green Bay Make the Trade?
The Packers are in need of help at the position after star running back Josh Jacobs was placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List. NFL.com reports that Jacobs was charged last week with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property following a May arrest after an incident with his girlfriend. His future in Green Bay is now uncertain.
Who Will Play Running Back For The Packers?
With Jacobs out of the picture, the Packers will turn to Marshawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, and the newly acquired Johnson. The former Hawkeye will definitely get a shot in Green Bay.
