Davenport Police Arrest Two Students For Bringing Guns To West High
After 4 people were killed and 9 were injured in a school shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia on Wednesday, news like this makes you want to count your blessings as a parent in the Davenport community.
The Davenport Police Department has released a statement about two students at Davenport West High School who were arrested on Wednesday for the possession of firearms on school grounds.
In the release, Davenport police officials say that on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 9:14 a.m. CT, Davenport Police arrived at Davenport West High School (3505 W Locust St) to serve a search warrant on two students related to an ongoing investigation.
The two students were called out of the classroom to meet with law enforcement. During the encounters with the students, officers located a firearm inside each of their backpacks.
The two students were arrested and charged with the following:
- 17-year-old student - Carrying Weapons on School Grounds
- 15-year-old student - Carrying Weapons on School Grounds, Dominion/Control of Firearm/Offensive Weapon by Felon, Interference with Official Acts – Firearm
The Davenport Police Department worked closely with Davenport Community School District leadership and West High School administration to ensure the safety of students and staff. The school day continued without interruption.
Police say that the investigation remains ongoing and there is no further information is available at this time.
The Alapachee High School shooting that took place this morning happened at 9:23 CT. The suspected gunman is believed to be a 14-year-old boy, a law enforcement source told CNN in its reporting.
