A town in Eastern Iowa and its city administration is looking to bring a fun new feature to the community in 2024. Earlier this week, the community itself had a chance to voice its opinions and give input about this new feature that will be great for kids and families.

The City of Camanche wants to add a splash pad to Platt Park (9th Ave, Camanche) but not only do they want to add this fun new feature, but they are also looking to renovate Platt Park and upgrade the facilities.

Creating Fun Opportunities For The Community

On Monday, city officials from Camanche held an open meeting on Monday at the Community Center for residents to come in and give their opinion about a splash pad being built in Platt Park.

My mom and her husband live in Camanche and when I saw this, I had to figure out when the city planned to get this thing up and running. I mean, it would be perfect for my daughter in the summer and so much fun for the other kids in Camanche.

I called the City of Camanche ahead of Monday's meeting and spoke with Camanche City Administrator, Andrew Kida. Kida told me about the splash pad at Platt Park,

"We want to create fun community opportunities for the residents of Camanche. A splash pad would be one of those things that many of the citizens could enjoy."

Right now, the City of Camanche, the city council, and the city administration are in the early phases of the plan.

Kida told me that the City is working with Shive Hattery in Bettendorf to come up with designs for the splash pad. The splash pad itself along with the renovations to Platt Park is part of the fiscal 2024 budget.

On Monday, residents had a chance to give their input about the design of the splash pad representatives from Shive Hattery were present to answer any questions. Residents could make suggestions and vote on which design they thought was the best.

After the design is selected, voted on, and the budget is set, then the building can begin.

Platt Park is Camanche's largest park. Built in 1976 with state funds, Platt Park has been the home to the Camanche Days celebrations.
