Traffic cameras are still doing a top-notch job.

This sounds like a joke but evidently, it's actually real.

Volo Museum, in the Chicago suburb of Volo, has the 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (if I could own any 80's car, I tell you that's it.) from the show "Knight Rider" starring David Hasselhoff.

Here's that nostalgic refresher.

On the car in the Volo Museum is a fake California license plate with the letters 'KITT', a nod to the show's 'Knight Industries Two Thousand'.

The car (and that fake California plate) has been in the Volo Museum unmoved for years.

So then why did New York City's traffic cameras send a very real $50 traffic ticket to the Illinois museum for a speeding violation?

Apparently the car that the cameras caught was doing 34 in a 25. Not even 10 over, but okay.

The museum's plate is, and always has been, a replica. If someone has that authentic customized plate in California, it's not the Volo Museum.

But be honest- if you drove that Firebird, you'd also get a lead foot.

The museum has requested a hearing to dispute the ticket, because what.

Traffic cameras aren't always the most accurate things, clearly. Cameras can clock drivers that turn right on red, or if you move over for an emergency vehicle or an accident, or follow the rules we learned in driver's ed, and yes the cameras can misread plates. There have been all kinds of studies about how actually useful the cameras have been or not in street safety.
