Iowa And Illinois, Here’s The Legit Way To Help Residents Of The Collapsed Apartment Building
As the situation with the collapsed building in downtown Davenport unfolds, displaced residents need our help.
Unfortunately, when disaster strikes, illegitimate GoFundMe's and sketchy "fundraising" efforts can pop up and while you think you're helping out, you could very well be giving your money to someone who isn't at all planning on helping the victims. I've seen several GoFundMe's and online fundraising efforts already for residents of the collapsed apartment building, so here's the best place to put your money to ensure it helps the displaced residents.
The Legitimate Outlets To Donate To
If you want to help the folks impacted by the collapse, the American Red Cross of Illinois and the Salvation Army are teaming up to provide shelter for the displaced residents and to take them donations.
If you would like to donate money or items to help the displaced residents, you can drop that off at Salvation Army, 4001 North Brady Street.
If you want to donate food, please contact or visit River Bend Food Bank at 4010 Kimmel Drive in Davenport.
The Quad Cities Community Foundation has opened up the Quad City Disaster Recovery Fund if you would like to donate virtually.

UPDATE FOR THOSE IMPACTED:
According to an announcement from the Red Cross, starting on Wednesday, May 31st at noon, those impacted by the building collapse or the evacuation order can go to 1111 W Kimberly Road (the former Select Specialty Hospital location). There will be shelter, meals, phone charging stations, health and mental health services, and pets are welcome.
Meanwhile, the situation with the state of the building is still very active and roads around the area remain closed. The decision of when to demolish it is currently ongoing as of Monday afternoon. 5 people are still unaccounted for but most likely two people are still inside the apartment building known as "The Davenport", which was built in 1907. Because of the compromised structural integrity of the building, residents are not allowed to go back inside.
