Iowa Team Wins 2025 Granny Basketball Championship
These grannies can cook. In every sense.
Not only do Iowans have Caitlin Clark to be proud of in the basketball world, we also have the 2025 national champions in Granny Basketball!
And before you start ripping on the term 'granny basketball', it really is a league, with the catchphrase 'a gentle game for women of a certain age'.
According to KCRG, the team of Iowa grannies (called the Sizzlin' Bees) took home the national title at the championships in Fort Worth, Texas. They beat the Harpers Ferry Fireflies 41-35.

The Sizzlin' Bees are comprised of players from the Cedar Rapids Sizzlers and the Ankeny Honey Bees.
And another warm fuzzy fact? The proceeds from the Granny Basketball Championship went to Texas flood victims and nonprofits in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The tournament hosted 29 teams from 6 states, 352 players between the ages of 50-93 participated.
There are 3 categories of competition: Championship, Hotsy Totsy and the recreational Off Our Rockers. It is part of Granny Basketball rules to wear 1920's-era athletic clothing and basketball is played in line with rules from that time. A game consists of 4 8-minute quarters.
Pretty sure every one of these ladies could kick my butt in athleticism.
If you want to see it for yourself you won't have to go far. Next year's Granny Basketball Championship will be in Ankeny, at the Prairie Trails Sports Complex July 17th-July 19th.
