Osceola County, Iowa Now Home To Iowa’s Tallest Ear Of Corn

Every state has their random roadside attractions.

Seriously, think about it: if you were visiting Iowa, which is known for corn, wouldn't you also want to visit Iowa's Tallest Ear of Corn? Well now you can!

Up along Highway 60, you'll now see Iowa's Tallest Ear of Corn. It's not actual corn but it kinda is?

Hawkeye Point Foundation Chairman Mike Earll told KCAU that, back in 2008, Hawkeye Point's landowners decided to sell the property and local FFA students talked the county into buying the land to turn it into a park:

At that time, I was the ag instructor and I asked the students, ‘Well, why don’t you buy the whole site and we’ll turn it into an Iowa park?'...We came up with this idea of turning the silo into a giant ear of corn. We found out there are only one or two people in the United States that actually would paint something like this.

Eventually though, the white and gray silo was painted into a giant ear of corn.

It was officially dedicated over the weekend.

Dave Covill, president of The Highpointers Foundation, which is a nonprofit that helps maintain all the highest points in America. He said Iowa made the best out of our geography:

They make the best of what they have. This is the flattest high point in America. So they have proudly taken the flattest state high point and made it such a treasure—a county treasure, a state treasure, a national treasure.
