Can a mansion be haunted if it was never truly finished?

Many years ago, Roseanne Barr, who you likely remember from the 1990's sitcom "Roseanne", decided to build a mansion smack in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa. Not really the private island destination one might expect from a celebrity but to each their own.

According to Virtual Globetrotting, she and her then-husband Tom Arnold started building the 25,000-square-foot mansion near Eldon, Iowa in the 90's, around the height of the show's success. She also opened a restaurant in Eldon and originally intended the mansion to be a getaway home for her and her husband but that construction came to a screeching halt when they got divorced in 1994, says Only In Your State.

It was once going to be the most expensive home in all of Iowa with a pretty price tag of $16 million. Even though it doesn't have the Grim Grinning Ghosts that Disney's Haunted Mansion does, it does look spooky though.

Roger Riley with Channel 13 News did a piece on the mansion's condition and closure 10 years ago. It's off limits to the public so you won't be ghost-hunting there anytime soon.

After Barr and Arnold split, the land was donated to Indian Hills Community College, which then sold it to a private party in 2012. It's apparently too expensive to demolish. It seems the longer that buildings sit empty and uncared for like this one has for about 30 years, the more likely it is to be haunted.

The bones had potential. This was supposed to be the main floor entryway.

The mansion was supposed to have an Olympic-size swimming pool, a four-lane bowling alley, and a screening room in the basement. The Victorian-style home was 28,000 square feet.
