A United States Postal Service carrier was arrested after authorities say he intentionally drove his truck toward a 10-year-old child. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the incident on Kingfisher Way following reports of a vehicle striking a minor.

Mistake Leads to Confrontation

The situation began when postal worker William White delivered a package to the wrong residence. A 10-year-old boy living at that home realized the error. Attempting to be helpful, the child placed the package on his scooter to deliver it to the correct neighbor.

Escalation and Aggravated Assault

Investigators report that White mistakenly believed the child was stealing the mail. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, White drove his USPS vehicle directly at the boy, running over the scooter. Fortunately, the child managed to jump into a nearby yard to avoid being hit just before the impact occurred.

Charges and Legal Consequences

After the collision, White allegedly grabbed the boy’s scooter and put it in his truck, only tossing it back into a yard when a family member confronted him. White was taken into custody on December 31 when he returned to work.

According to jail records, White now faces several serious charges, including:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Criminal mischief
  • Petit theft
