A Kentucky man is facing felony charges after he allegedly stole a vehicle from the mother of his newborn child shortly after the delivery. Christopher Mollette, 37, was arrested Saturday night following a 45-minute getaway in the victim's car.

From Delivery Room to Parking Lot

The incident began at Pikeville Medical Center. Because hospital visitation policies prevented Mollette from staying inside with his ex-girlfriend, she kindly offered him her car keys so he could stay warm. According to reports, Mollette watched the birth of his child before heading out to the parking lot.

A Disappearing Act

When the mother later attempted to locate Mollette, both he and her vehicle were missing. Hospital security footage reportedly showed Mollette initially sitting in the passenger seat before moving behind the wheel and driving away.

When the victim managed to reach him by phone, Mollette was reportedly uncooperative. According to police, "He allegedly answered the phone and claimed it was none of her business where her vehicle was, then hung up on her."

Arrest and Legal Consequences

Authorities tracked Mollette to Paintsville, where he was taken into custody. This is not his first brush with the law; his history includes various drug-related and traffic offenses.

Mollette is currently being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. He faces charges of auto theft and receiving stolen property, with bond set at $10,000 for each count.
