Woman Mistakenly Paid $1,650 An Hour Refused To Return The Money, Got Arrested
We've talked about pay glitches and how you absolutely should not spend the money, because you will end up in jail. Apparently, one woman didn't catch any of that, and well, she wound up in jail.
Craighead County District Judge David Boling heard the case of 50-year-old Rene Nichole Coleman, who was facing charges of theft more than $5,000 but less than $25,000, a Class C felony.
The CEO of a business in Jonesboro said on August 12th, 2025, that Coleman stole funds from the company after a payroll glitch.
The CEO said Coleman is normally paid $16.50 an hour, but on May 10th, 2025, she was paid in error to the tune of $1,650 per hour for a 12-hour shift. She was overpaid $19,338 by mistake.
“When the error was noticed, Coleman refused to pay back the money,” the affidavit said. “The victim provided financial documents and emails to support her claim.”
When she got called by a detective looking into the case, Coleman agreed to talk to officers, but never showed up to discuss the issue. An arrest warrant was issued.
Coleman was arrested on the outstanding warrant, booked into the Jonesboro jail on a bond of $15,000.
