Downing Family Fundraiser
Brooks, the 2-year-old son of a Davenport Fire Fighter, was first diagnosed with cancer this past spring. Despite surgery and treatment, the cancer has since spread throughout his brain and spine.
Sadly, there is no cure. As his parents prepare for the unthinkable, they are also burdened with mounting medical
expenses.
There's a special event to raise funding to cover all the medical bills so they can focus on what really matters at this time.
It's a special golf outing at Iron Tee on October 25th from 11am to 3pm. 25% of proceeds from the event go to the Downings.
There's a longest drive contest, silent auctions, raffles, and closest to the pin competition. If you can't make the 25th, they're continuing the 25% deal from October 26th-November 9th, if you mention Downing Fundraiser.
There's also a GoFundMe.
Wheel of Fortune
Last night's Wheel of Fortune had the show's biggest winner at $1,035,155.
REO Speedwagon At Illinois
REO Speedwagon came back to their beginnings at University of Illinois. Here's what they (or... Kevin) had to say about it.
Note which ones are wearing Illini gear, and which ones are wearing... not.
Here's their show for Homecoming with the Marching Illini.
WNBA Troubles
Last night, Napheesa Collier, a Minnesota Lynx forward and WNBA Player's Association Vice President, read a two page prepared speech during a press conference - talking about troubles with Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, officiating, and lack of accountability on key issues.
Another thing she addressed was players being fined for any criticism of the league, officiating, or anything else.
She said over the off-season, she asked the Commissioner why the big revenue drivers like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Paige Beuckers were not being paid in comparisson. For example, Caitlin's salary from the league was just $78,066.
She went on to say Engelbert told her “Caitlin should be grateful she makes $16 million off the court because without the platform that the WNBA gives her, she wouldn’t make anything.”
When she asked her about officiating issues, Engelbert said "Only the losers complain about the refs."
Napheesa was injured from physical play.
Announcer in Hot Water
A band announcer at a college football game made an announcement that has brought him under some scrutiny.
As the opposing team's dance team took the field, he announced the famous Alabama State "plus-sized dance team" by telling the audience “Congratulate them, they’re now the new face of Ozempic.”
Both schools made statements right away - which in any business, when multiple businesses have to "make a statement" in regards to something you did, that's probably your last day at that job.
Kerry Tucker's New EP
Kerry Tucker stopped by today to talk about the release of his new EP release, Undertow. He got to record the song at Abbey Road in studio 3 where Pink Floyd record Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here.
His engineer was the super in-demand Nick Davis, best known for his work with Genesis.
Friday, October 3rd, he's got a release party at the Redstone Room in Downtown Davenport. You can get a physical copy of the EP at Co-Op Records or Ragged Records. You can also listen wherever you stream your music.
Emergency Landing On I-15
A plane had to do an emergency landing onto I-15 in San Diego during rush hour.
