A YouTuber known for documenting his flights with a paramotor - which he calls "the most affordable and accessible form of powered flight - is lucky to be alive after a terrifying crash that saw him hospitalized with multiple injuries.

Anthony Vella has been sharing videos of his journey into paramotoring for about 5 years, amassing a small but faithful following. A paramotor is a flying machine consisting of essentially a giant flag and a parachute that allows the user to fly off of the ground up to 18,000 feet in the air. They're able to take off from just about anywhere.

In the video he shared of the crash, he was puttering along at about 85 feet when something went horrifically wrong, causing his parachute to tangle and send him dropping to the ground.

Vella laid on the ground screaming until he could get Siri to call 911. Shortly after he rings, two good samaritans showed up and while they couldn't move him without worry of further injury, they were able to move his machine from him and stay calm to let him know things would be okay.

His wife showed up just moments after the emergency services did, where they transported him to the hospital with a fractured neck, back, pelvis, and a broken arm, requiring surgery.

"We have felt the love and support from all of you and will never be able to articulate just how much it means to him, me, and our family. Anthony is very excited to get back to his strong and active self," Anthony's wife wrote to his followers.

Re-diagnosing what went wrong during the crash, the YouTuber said he missed a small tension knot in his paraglider during a pre-flight check, which caused the aircraft to collapse.
