Wisconsin Couple Discovers Embalming Room in Their New Home
You can’t make this stuff up. It sounds like something straight out of a TV show. Someone call HGTV, because this one has plot twist written all over it.
It all started like any other normal house hunt does, a couple in Wisconsin was searching for their dream home with their realtor. Looking at house after house, when they finally stumbled across a beautiful 4,500-square-foot Victorian. It had charm, character, and all the space they needed for their large family. Even better? It was right in their budget. Sold!
But once they got the keys and started exploring the place a little more closely… surprise! Their amazing dream home came with a creepy little secret. It used to be a funeral home. And not just in the “rumor has it” kind of way. We’re talking original embalming room and a full-blown casket showroom still intact.
Let that sink in for a second. What would you do? Lock up the basement and never look back or embrace your new space?!

Rather than freak out or list it back on the market with sage bundles included, the couple leaned into the bizarre history. They’ve taken to TikTok to document their unusual discoveries and share renovation plans, and of course, the internet is absolutely eating it up.
In one of her TikTok videos, the owner, Ashley Berken, said:
“I feel like breathing new life into this space is the perfect intended use for it.”
