I always wondered whether ticket quotas were real, and now I know for sure they are.
To be fair, I never asked, but I heard plenty of friends and family mention that “cops have quotas for how many people they give tickets to.”
Do Police Ticket Quotas Actually Exist?
We’d sit around talking about how police would be more willing to write tickets at the end of the month than earlier because they were trying to reach a number we were so sure actually existed.
Well, as of today, I can say that it does exist. Whether every police department in the state follows these quota rules is another matter.

New Illinois Legislation Aims to Ban Quota-Based Evaluations
Here’s how I found out about it. Apparently, the Illinois House is trying to pass a bill that would ban using tickets, stops, or citations to evaluate an officer’s performance.

The reason makes a lot of sense, as its aim is to reduce the pressure on police to write tickets just to hit numbers.
