Never have I ever thought that a Major League Baseball team would give away Pope-themed hats, but it’s 2026, so sure, why not?

Every team could use a little boost, so it makes sense to look to the heavens for some help.

Even if it’s still the White Sox. Just remember, this is coming from a dyed-in-the-wool Cubs fan, so maybe it might come off a little bit like jealousy.

Chicago-Born Pope Leo XIV Sparks Baseball Buzz

Truth be told, when the new pope was announced last year, and at the same time the news came out that he was American and, best of all, a Chicagoan, my flabbers were gasted.

I was even more stunned when Pope Leo XIV, who is from Chicago’s southside, was rumored to be a Cubs fan. At that time, I thought that was probably a bridge too far.

South Side Roots Tie the Pope to White Sox Fandom

I was in on the new pope being an American-born citizen, a Chicago guy, but I drew the line at him being a Cubs fan.

The Pope is from the southside. Typically, Southsiders are fans of the White Sox. Personally, I couldn't care less, but I knew deep down that was probably wrong, and he was indeed a Sox fan.

The White Sox have since gone all in on their relationship with the Pope, and now they’re taking things one step further.
