Tinley Park 5: New Film Is Bringing the Spotlight to a 2008 Cold Case
On the morning of Saturday, February 2, 2008, a gunman entered a Lane Bryant store in Tinley Park, Illinois, killed 5 women, and left another one injured. For nearly 18 years the case has remained unsolved, but a new documentary being filmed is hoping to change that.
'The Tinley Park 5'
As a true crime lover, I often fall down rabbit holes involving Illinois cold cases, but there's one that has missed my radar until today: The Tinley Park 5.
At around 10:45 a.m. on February 2, 2008, a gunman burst into the Lane Bryant store at Brookside Marketplace, corralled the store manager, an employee, and four customers into the back, and executed them. The store's part-time employee did survive, but was injured. The victims were:
- Jennifer L. Bishop, age 34, of South Bend, Indiana
- Carrie Hudek Chiuso, 33, of Frankfort
- Rhoda McFarland, 42 (the store manager) of Joliet
- Sarah T. Szafranski, 22, of Oak Forest
- Connie R. Woolfolk, 37, of Flossmoor
Investigators believe the mass murder was a "botched robbery", but the saddest thing is, the shooter remains at large and the victims' families have been waiting far too long for justice.
New Documentary About 'The Tinley Park 5'
Charlie Minn, who worked on America’s Most Wanted in the late 1980s before moving on to produce documentaries covering the arrest of El Chapo and the mass shootings in Parkland, Florida, and Uvalde, Texas (among others), arrived in the western suburbs on Thursday to interview families and begin shooting a documentary that covers the mass shooting.
Minn's mission for this film is simple: to renew interest in this case, help investigators find the killer, and deliver justice for the victims' still-grieving families.
Minn told WGN:
Anger fuels me, and this case needs emotion, because that creates a sense of urgency, Right now, this thing is dormant. It has faded.
'Who Killed These Women? The Tinley Park 5' is expected to be released on February 2, 2026, the 18th anniversary of the tragedy, and will be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video and at select AMC Theaters.
I truly hope this documentary uncovers a breakthrough in the case that is long overdue, and that the families get the answers they've been waiting 18 years for.
