The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming to Iowa next fall!

Could they be coming to Des Moines next season after being crowned the NBA champions? If you've been watching any of the NBA playoffs, it would be hard to argue there's a hotter team in the league right now.

In the first round of the NBA playoffs, the Minnesota Timberwolves swept the Phoenix Suns to end the series 4-0. The second round of the NBA playoffs is underway and the Timberwolves are currently up 2-0 in a series against the defending NBA champs, the Denver Nuggets. After taking both games 1 and 2 in Denver, the Timberwolves now will travel home for games 3 and 4 in hopes of closing out another series early.

This will be the Timberwovles first appearance ever at Wells Fargo arena.

Hottest Team in the Playoffs?

The Timberwolves have started their 2024 playoff season 6-0 after most 'experts' picked the Suns to win the first series. Those same 'experts also mostly picked the Nuggets to win in round 2. The Nuggets could still come back and win the series, you have to respect last season's champions but falling down 0-2 at home isn't ideal for Denver.

The Timberwolves have dominated on the defensive side of the ball holding Denver to 99 points in game 1 and 80 points in game 2. In today's NBA, holding a team under 100 points is like a football team's defense not allowing any touchdowns. They might give up a field goal or 2 but when a football team doesn't allow any touchdowns, they're probably going to win the game.

If you hold an NBA team to under 100 points, you should win 95% of your games. The Timberwolves came into the playoffs as the number 1 ranked defensive team in the league and they've turned up the intensity since the playoffs started. Can the T-Wolves finish this series out at home, in front of their fans? We'll find out this weekend as game 3 is this Friday (May 10) at 8:30 p.m. and game 4 is Sunday (May 12).

For anyone who has been a Timberwolves fan, this has been a huge breath of fresh air. Timberwolves fans haven't waited months or years for a team to make noise in the playoffs. T-Wolves fans have waited 2 decades. Before this season, the Timberwolves hadn't won a playoff series in 2004!

Iowa fans might remember the name Luka Garza and while he's not a main contributer for this team...yet. He scored the most points in a playoff game in his career on April 20th against the Suns and added a bucket in last night's blowout vicotry.
