Now a Ghost of Iowa: Inside Abandoned Wasserbahn Waterpark [GALLERY]
Please note: While exploring abandoned places can be tempting, it's important to remember that many of these properties are privately owned.
Entering without permission may be considered trespassing and could be dangerous or illegal.
We encourage readers to enjoy these photos from a distance and respect all posted signs and property boundaries.
If you've been in Iowa for any length of time, you likely remember when you heard Wasserbahn Waterpark was closing down.
It was back in February 2022.

The waterpark & hotel went from being a fairly popular tourist attraction in Williamsburg, to an abandoned dot on Iowa maps.
Recently, a YouTuber who generally shoots videos of restaurants and hotels in or near casinos happened upon Wasserbahn and filmed what he found inside.
The channel, The Great Indoors with Ed and Michelle, took a peek inside the abandoned property.
Remembering Wasserbahn: A Look at Its Rocky History
Before we look inside the permanently closed Wasserbahn Waterpark & Hotel, let's remember what once was a pretty popular tourist spot in Central Iowa.
Opening in 2004, the park seemed to have more lows than highs.

The Wasserbahn resort has had a rocky history. It was most recently owned by Thomas Smock of Cocoa Beach, Florida, but faced serious operational issues.
In 2013, the Iowa Department of Public Health shut it down due to water quality and hygiene problems.
It later reopened in 2014 after Yule and Sae Park, originally from California, purchased the resort and made the required repairs.
The End and What It Now Looks Like
There is little doubt that the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic helped solidify the death of the troubled property.
Once it was confirmed to be DOA in early 2022, there was still hope.
Maybe an investor would buy the property? Maybe it would get new life? While it was a waterpark and hotel, it also had a mini-golf course, restaurant, and lounge, offering options for almost anyone.
But that never happened. Or, at least it hasn't yet.
And so, it sits abandoned. Want to peek inside? Ed from The Great Indoors with Ed and Michelle did just that.

Ed, not a native Iowan, happened upon Wasserbahn while he was driving through Iowa and stopped for gas in Williamsburg. He noticed the door was open and went in.
Again, please DO NOT try something like this - it could be dangerous and, even if abandoned, it's trespassing.
