It's incredible the amount of things I continue to learn about Iowa since moving here a little over two years ago. I've just recently learned that Iowa is home to the International Video Game Hall of Fame!

Iowa gamers might already be aware of this museum but I had never heard of the International Video Game Hall of Fame and Museum until this past weekend.

Anyone who is a fan of record selling video game, Call of Duty, might have watched the Call of Duty World Championships this past weekend. The tournament was held in Dallas, Texas, and many fans were considering this as the biggest and best tournament that has ever been held by the Esport.

After scrolling through various articles about the tournament and the history of video games, I stumbled upon Iowa's very own video game heaven.

Video Game History

Video Games date back to the 1950s and 60s as computer scientists created, was is believed to be, the first video game. Does anyone remember this oldie but goodie, Tennis for Two. Or you might remember this game from 1962 called Spacewar!

Video games have come a long way since the 50s and 60s. Now we have dedicated professional leagues for various games and dedicated Hall of Fame Museum's to honor the gaming world throughout history.

International Video Game Hall of Fame & Museum

Back in 2009, Iowa might remember the launch party for the Video Game Hall of Fame when they had their very own launch party!

Throughout the course of gaming history, Iowa's video game hall of fame is dedicated recognizing the best of the best in the video game world. Whether that's games, artifacts, memorabilia, video game creators, or some of the best players in the world.  According to the IVGHOF website

"The International Video Game Hall of Fame and Museum is dedicated to honoring excellence in the field of electronic gaming by recognizing the champions, industries, and professionals related to this popular activity. We will build and maintain a state-of-the-art interactive facility in Ottumwa, Iowa that contains historical archive exhibits describing the milestones of the video game industry, and preserve significant video gaming relics, memorabilia, and artifacts of the times past and present."

The IVGHOF has inducted competitive gamers, game designers, and video games into the Hall of Fame dating back to 2010.

As someone who enjoys playing a select few games with his buddies, I never knew Iowa was home of the IVGHOF. I've heard of the World Video Game Hall of Fame, which is located in New York but I was never aware that Ottumwa, Iowa had such a strong connection with the video game world.
