People in the Quad Cities are always there to take care of each other. The Rock family always takes care of each other. Once again, the community is coming together to help a beautiful family facing one of the toughest battles imaginable.
You can help out this family and take home a sweet guitar in the process.
Misty McDoneld's Fight Against Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Misty McDoneld is just 38 years old. She’s a devoted mom to two young daughters (ages 9 and 12), and in April, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin Lymphoma. The cancer has spread throughout her body, including her spine, skull, bone marrow, liver, stomach, and lymph nodes. She's now going through aggressive chemo every two weeks and is in a fight for her life.
Her husband James has had to stop working to care for Misty and the girls full-time. The weight of medical bills, gas to chemo appointments, food, medications, and basic needs is overwhelming, especially as her treatment schedule grows more demanding.
To help them stay afloat during this time, friends are holding a raffle for a custom-built electric guitar made by hand.
Guitar Raffle Details:
- $20 per ticket
- Drawing: August 15th
- Local entries only (Guitar will be personally hand-delivered to the winner)
The guitar comes with a Fender gig bag and 1 month of free guitar lessons from Scot Haut at Q.C. Rock Academy (a $120 value), with Scot also donating an amp to go with the guitar.
The guitar features 9-gauge strings, a Maple neck, locking tuners, a Seymour Duncan JB pickup, a Killswitch, a Custom “Frankenstrat” cancer-awareness paint job, Single volume knob
To enter the raffle, you can Venmo: @Lauren-Bloomquist-2 (2549 are the last 4 if needed). You can get more details and contact the organizer, Lauren, on her Facebook page.
Misty updated her friends on June 6th, saying, “I had to be at the cancer center every day this week. My white blood cell count was dangerously low. I needed shots and daily labs, and it drained us financially and emotionally. My husband and daughters can’t stay with me during chemo, so they drive me back and forth each day. We don’t even have money for the Claritin I need to ease the pain from the shots. We’re just doing our best, but it’s hard. Every little bit helps.”
You can also come out and support the family in person on Friday, August 9, at 5 PM.
They will be at The Broken Spokes, 1402 W 4th St, Davenport, with live music by Dylan Rohm & Doug Brundies. Walking tacos, 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, and more.
If you would like to help the family but don't need the guitar, you can donate directly to their GoFundMe here.
