March MATness runs wild in the Quad Cities

With a break from the high school state wrestling, kids state wrestling championships. B1G Wrestling Tournament to the NCAA Wrestling Championships, we wanted to acknowledge some of our local wrestlers for their recent accomplishments.

Congratulations to former Bettendorf Bulldog wrestler and current UNI Panther wrestler, Jacob Schwarm on his fifth place finish at the Big12 Conference tournament and qualifying for the NCAA National Championships!

Congrats to Illinois High School State Wrestling Champions:

• Ethan Doty 126 West Carroll High School
• Eli Pannell 220 Fulton High School
• Logan Lee 285 Orion High School

Congrats to Iowa Wrestling Coaches Officials Association Girls State Champions:

• Tateum Park 113 Davenport North High School
• Sydney Park 126 Davenport Central High School

Congrats to Iowa High School State Wrestling Champions:

• Eli Loyd 138 Pleasant Valley High School
• Collin Lewis 145 North Scott High School
• Julien Broderson 195 Assumption High School

Individual high school post season honors:

• Tateum Park was a finalist for the IA Wrestle "Dan Gable Ms. Wrestler of the Year Award"
• Julien Broderson won the Class 2A IA Wrestle "Dan Gable Mr. Wrestler of the Year Award"
• Julien Broderson was named IAWrestle.com "2019 High School Wrestler of the Year"
• Julien Broderson was named this year’s recipient of the Bob Steenlage Iowa High School Wrestler of the Year Award
• Eli Loyd, Collin Lewis, Julien Broderson, and Griffin Liddle (Bettendorf) were named to the IAWrestle 2019 High School All State Team.
• Kane Schmidt (Bettendorf) and Griffin Liddle were named to the IAWrestle 2019 All-Underclassmen Team
• Eli Loyd and Jake Matthaidess (North Scott) were named to the IAWrestle 2019 All-State Junior Team
• Collin Lewis and Julien Broderson were named to the IAWrestle 2019 All-Senior Team

Local wrestling clubs had a great year at kids state wrestling tournaments:

• Noah Tapia- Moline Wrestling Club was an IKWF state runner-up
• Nano Sepeda- Moline Wrestling Club was an IKWF state runner-up
• Charlie Jagusah- Alleman Jr Pioneers WON the IKWF state Championship

The North Scott Wrestling Club placed 5th in the team standings at the Iowa Super Pee Wee State Wrestling Championships!

And North Scott placed 5 wrestlers at Super Pee Wee State, including State Champion, Matthaidess.

And placed three wrestlers at 2nd grade state, one of which was state champion, Green!

At the Iowa AAU Kids State Championships, North Scott placed five on the podium.

The Bettendorf Bulldog Wrestling Club won the 2019 AAU State Tournament Team Championship. 17 wrestler stood on the podium at the end of the tournament.  The Bulldogs had 4 AAU State Champions:

Amari Odom

Brayden Franzen

Jake Knight

And Brayden Koester.

Bettendorf's Gavin McDermott won his second straight AAU Super Pee Wee State Championship at 54lbs!!
