Over 30 Celebrities to Take Part in Cedar Rapids Charity Game [PHOTOS]
A special day at the ballpark will be happening next month in Cedar Rapids.
Back in 2019, a celebrity softball game was played at Veterans Memorial Stadium, hosted by Perfect Game Cares. It was all to support the growth of the game and featured a free youth camp for kids. I was able to take part in that first game, and it was a blast.
Now, with the pandemic behind us and life back to normal, the event is back this July. This year it's called the Rise 2 Greatness Celebrity Softball Game. Rise 2 Greatness was formerly known as Perfect Game Cares.
On Saturday, July 29, the day begins at Veterans Memorial Stadium with a Free Grow the Game Youth Camp from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids will receive instruction from former Major League Baseball players, former NFL players, college and high school players, and more.
The youth camp will include a home run derby with finalists taking to the field before the celebrity game that night. All kids in the youth camp get two free tickets to the Rise 2 Greatness Celebrity Softball Game that evening. The youth camp is limited to 500 kids 12 and under, so sign your kids up now. You can do that here.
The Celebrity Softball Game begins at 7 p.m. on July 29, with gates opening at 6 p.m. An impressive list of celebrities will be there (photos and more on each one below). Rise 2 Greatness says a total of more than 30 celebrities will take part. There is also a fireworks display after the game.
Tickets to the game are available here, with proceeds benefitting The Jerry Ford Grow the Game Fund. Ford is the President/Owner of Perfect Game, the world's largest baseball scouting service, which is based in Cedar Rapids. The Jerry Ford Grow the Game Fund is dedicated to providing "opportunities for baseball and softball players from the many underserved and at-risk communities across America."
