DAVENPORT SISTERS COMPETE FOR A CHANCE AT A GOLDEN HISTORY
On January 4th of this year, the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association announced its first interscholastic Iowa High School Girls Wrestling Championships January 19, 2019 at Waverly-Shell Rock High School.
The Quad Cities will be sending multiple female student athletes to compete for the chance at a state title. Davenport North is sending Tateum Park. Davenport Central is sending Sydney Park.
They are sisters. They are both ranked #1 by IAWrestle. They are both, this Friday, going to be on Don't Hassle Us We're Local, the Quad Cities only local sports talk radio show ESPN 93.5 FM.
Let's get to know a little about Tateum, a junior for the Wildcats, and Sydney, a freshman for the Blue Devils, with 5 HASSLE FREE QUESTIONS:
1. WHY THE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS IN THE DCSD?
Josh Park, the hopeful state champions father explains, "Tateum is in the accelerated dual enrollment program, earning your high school diploma and your associates degree from Scott Community College, only offered at Davenport North. Sydney went through the Creative Arts Program, for visual and media arts, through the Davenport Schools that feeds to Davenport Central. She is also in Jr ROTC and band."
2. WHO IS MORE COMPETITIVE?
TATEUM: "It depends on what we are doing. We both don't want to lose to each other in anything."
SYDNEY: "It changes by situation. On the mat, or anything else, we are very competitive with each other."
3. SIBLINGS FIGHT. WHEN YOU GET INTO ARGUMENTS WITH EACH OTHER, DO YOU WRESTLE IT OUT OR HUG IT OUT?
SYDNEY: "We usually just argue it out until it goes away.
TATEUM: "We argue. Then we ignore each other. Not really hug it out but sort of."
4. WHO IS ON SOCIAL MEDIA MORE? AND WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE EMOJI?
TATEUM: "I am on social media more. I'll admit that it is me."
SYDNEY: "It's Tateum by far."
Both say they use the laughing/crying emoji the most.
5. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
TATEUM: "I would like to wrestle in college. I would like to go into dermatology and open my own business."
SYDNEY: "I want to wrestle in college or go into the military and continue to wrestle. I want to go on to the Olympics and compete."
