Earth Day was created in 1970...but I would've guessed the 1980's.  Maybe that's when I first heard about it.  I was in Elementary School and we were able to take home a real life tree to plant in our yard.  Ya know...to help make more oxygen and take away the CO2.

But it never made it's way into the ground.  I guess my parents thought we had enough trees to mow around and didn't need another.

Those formative times in my life is why I'm a big believer in recycling (even though I live in the country now and burn my trash). It's also why I'm so against littering.  (even more so now that I live in the country and have to pick up Busch Light cans strewn up and down my ditches).

According to Hays Free Press / WTAE here are five easy things you can do that will help save the planet . . .

  • 1.  Turn the faucet off when you're brushing your teeth, washing your face, or shaving, to save water.
  • 2.  Speaking of water, you can help reduce the number of plastic water bottles that end up in our oceans and landfills by using reusable water bottles.
  • 3.  Also, look for leaks in your house.  A leaky toilet can waste 200 gallons a day.  Yes, per DAY.  To detect a leak in your toilet, add food coloring to the tank water.  If the colored water appears in the bowl, the toilet is leaking.
  • 4.  Take reusable shopping bags with you to the grocery store, Target, or even the mall, and skip the plastic bags as often as you can.
  • 5.  Walk or bike instead of driving.  It helps cut CO2 emissions AND you'll get in some exercise.

What The Quad Cities Did For Fun in the 90's

Many times over the years, I'll be talking with friends about years gone by and I'll say "take me back".

Every generation goes through this, I assume. Looking back at a more simple time where responsibilities haven't set in and life seems fun. Opportunities are endless.

Let's go back to the 1990's to Wacky Waters, 50 Cent Beer night and revisit Mallards Mania!

Quad Cities Live Music Venues That Aren't Live Music Venues Anymore

Nostalgia Alert!.

We've compiled a quick list (by no means comprehensive) of venues in the Quad Cities that are no longer music venues but to us will ALWAYS hold a special place were we saw some great shows and made some incredible memories.

To many of us the live music scene wasn't just a concert here & there. It was an every weekend affair. And it didn't matter if it was a touring band or your buddy's band. We were going to be there with a beer in hand and scream along with guitars that were way too loud in a room that was improperly treated acoustically and make some bad decisions.
