WWE Superstar/Davenport West Alum, Seth Rollins, Makes Triumphant Return
When I was growing up, every Sunday I would watch WWF Wrestling. Hulkamania was running wild in the Stage Household for sure, but the sarcasm and wit of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is why he was my favorite wrestler.
Piper's Pit was a particularly great segment because it always ended with everyone fighting and destroying the set.
Each week I would see advertisements for the upcoming tour dates. Wharton Field House in Moline was a venue we would see a lot and each time I would beg my parents to take me.
I eventually got my sales pitch just right
On on July 7, 1987 (4 days after my 10th birthday) I got to go to Palmer Auditorium in Davenport to see a WWF House Show.
According to prowrestling.fandom.com there were a ton of matches I don't remember at all. But I got to run to the entryway to take pictures of King Kong Bundy & Hillbilly Jim as they walked to the ring.
Leaping Lanny Poffo signed my frisbee (which was a thing for some reason) and George "The Animal" Steele beat Kamala in the main event!
I Couldn't Imagine
If you would've told me any of those amazing performers were coming to my High School to throw a pie in a teacher's face, I would've gone nuts! The Quad Cities' very own wrestling superstar, Seth Rollins, made a special appearance last week.
Check out the Davenport West Facebook Video here: "Had a former Falcon crash the “pie in the face” today at West High School!"
Seth hypes the crowd!
Teachers are shaking in their boots
Oh, the humanity! Rollins tastes victory!
Still the champ!
Later, Principal Williams gets in the SCW ring and grabs a steel chair
Plants it right in the breadbasket
Raises it high!
Slams it on the back and walks out victorious!
Why wasn't school this great when I was that age?
