Boat Rental App Looking For Iowa ‘Captains’
You can rent anything these days using apps on your smartphone. The latest is an app that wants to help Iowans connect with something to help them have some fun out of the water. The app GetMyBoat is looking for some new captains in the Hawkeye state!
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the app has just started to add a presence in Iowa by adding boating options near Iowa City and Lake Okoboji, and some canoes and kayaks near Monticello. GetMyBoat was created to connect customers with charter boat operations as well as businesses that offer other options like kayaks. The company first launched in San Francisco in 2013. A company officials says that their presence in Iowa is still small, and that they are working hard to find more boat charters and boat operators.
The Gazette reports that as of now, rental demand is outpacing operators so the company is in need of more captains. If you are a boat owner or boat captain, you can contact GetMyBoat and an account representative will help you list you boat using photos and descriptions. It is free to list a boat and have an account. The app charges an 8.5% fee for bookings.
I went to their website and searched for a boat to use in the Iowa City area. It came up with one listing available.
This Mastercraft XT23 is $1200 per day to rent, and comes with an experienced captain. You can have up to 12 guests in your group. You can book the days you'd like to use the boat similar to booking a stay at a hotel or an Airbnb. If you want some time on the water, but don't want to buy the boat, then GetMyBoat might be the option you're looking for.
You are the captain now...
