Chicago Auto Show Could Return In 2021

The Chicago Auto Show and many other big events could return to Chicago this year. 

The city of Chicago lost the annual Auto Show this year due to the pandemic. It's usually held every February at the McCormick Center by the lake. It is a MASSIVE event that takes place over 10 days. It's been held every year since 2005 and was growing bigger every year.

We used to do remotes there. I'm not a big car guy at all but it was still pretty cool to see all the new stuff. There was basically every car manufacturer in the world there showing off their best stuff. There was stuff there for the car nerds as well but I just ignored that stuff.

Anyway, it sounds like there's a good chance it will return this year.

SunTimes - Representatives of the Chicago Auto Show discussed with state officials Thursday a plan to safely stage the event at McCormick Place in July. It could serve as a trial run for a return of large-scale conventions.

Dave Sloan, president of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, said the group discussed limiting crowds by using online ticket sales with timed entrances. He also said the show, typically held in February, could have an outdoor component to take advantage of summer weather.

An outdoor component of the car show would be awesome. If there was one thing the auto show definitely was, was a little smelly. Lots of rubber, and car guy smell. It wasn't great.

Baseball fans are being allowed back into major league parks, Chicago bars and restaurants are up to 50% capacity, and now it looks like we might be getting some, probably very different looking but at least happening, major events. It'll be a while before we're back to "normal", but we're inching closer everyday.
