Davenport Truck Eating Bridge Strikes Again

The truck-eating bridge at Brady Street and 5th Street in Davenport was a little hungry Thursday morning. Another truck driver fell victim to the railroad bridge causing a delay on Brady Street and throwing debris everywhere.

One of the Davenport truck-eating bridges needed some food! Thursday morning, the driver of a Ryder rental truck was heading northbound on Brady Street. At around 11 a.m., the truck struck the railroad bridge at the intersection of Brady Street and 5th Street.

The clearance for the railroad bridge is 11-feet and 8-inches. The top of the Ryder truck was entirely ripped off and laying on the ground still slightly attached when we arrived. The driver of the truck seemed to not be injured as the driver was walking around trying to pull debris off of the railroad bridge. Debris was caught in the railroad bridge, scattered on Brady Street, and was thrown to the curb on Brady Street. No one was injured due to the accident.

Cody Lussaert was behind the Ryder truck when the truck hit the bridge. He was there with his hazards on directing traffic around the damaged truck. Police had not arrived on the scene when we arrived. An Iowa sheriff's deputy stopped to let Lussaert and the driver know the Davenport Police Department was on the way.
