Regions in Phase 4 can resume High School Athletics!

Phase 4 of the Reopen Illinois plan has already given regions who have reached it their indoor dining back, but now it will also bring high school athletics back as well! According to our friends at WGEM in an article they posted they said...

"The Illinois Department of Health's top doctor announced Friday regions in Phase 4, can resume intra-conference play in high school sports. As of Friday, that includes Adams, Brown, Hancock, Pike, Schuyler, Scott counties and others in Regions 3, 5, and 6. Dr. Ngozi Ezike said these regions are now able to play competitive basketball and resume practices."

They go on to say that this also includes sports like Wrestling, Football, and basketball will be allowed to practice, and play inter conference games. Now in order for these sports to have championship state tournaments there still is a way to go, but at this point in my opinion that is an afterthought. What has been most important since March, when sports has been effectively cancelled in Illinois for high school students, is the ability to just get out on the field or court with their teammates and compete again. I also hope this means students in the arts like band, choir, and theatre will also get to resume their activates although I haven't seen any reporting on that as of yet. Because for those students doing art is just as important as competing for the athletes on the field!
