The Illinois Kohl’s Locations Shutting Down By April 2025
The struggle of retail stores has been well documented as of late. Not so much the brand, but the actual physical store. With online sales surging companies are closing locations that aren't profitable.
In Illinois, we will have less open Kohl's and more empty buildings.
Kohl's Is Not Alone In Closing Stores In Illinois
Kohl's expects retail sales in 2024 to be down 7 to 8% with the full-year sales reports coming in February. But they are not the only retailer struggling.

From the Kohl's press release, "We always take these decisions very seriously," said Tom Kingsbury, Kohl’s chief executive officer. "As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams."
Kohl's Closing 27 Stores Nationwide
There will be 27 Kohl's closing locations by April 2025. In Illinois, 2 locations will be permanently shutting their doors. Both are in the Chicago suburbs. The very, very far suburbs.
- Plainfield - 11860 S Route 59
- Spring Hill (West Dundee) - 3000 Spring Hill Ring Rd.
One thing in common with both of these stores, the people that currently shop at them won't have far to travel to still find a Kohl's. Both locations have other Kohl's within a 15-minute drive.
And there are still about 18 total Kohl's in the greater Chicago area. So till plenty of brick-and-mortar stores to check out if you don't like online shopping.
Even after closing these 27 stores, Kohl's will still be open at 1,120 locations.
