It's been a very white, powdery 3 days.

I wasn't really mentally ready for snow and winter until it slammed Iowa and the Midwest the weekend after Thanksgiving. In Davenport, the snow from Saturday alone (about 9.5") was more snow than we had all of last winter.

So are we done with it?

In short: lol nope.

The Old Farmer's Almanac says winter 2025-2026 is going to be warmer than normal (yay!) but we're not out of the woods yet.

The Almanac's 60-day forecast for Iowa shows some flurries in mid and late-December. But we're not done with the thick snow piles yet. We're getting a punch at some point January 21-31st. A snowstorm.

We're also expected to go through some "short cold spells" (what else is new?). But mostly for the rest of the winter, the Almanac says temperatures are supposed to be "above normal" and precipitation will be "below normal".

So maybe it will immediately warm up to 75 degrees after that late-January snowstorm? And stay that way through May? One can only hope.

There's another bit of good news for this winter. This whole warmer-than-normal winter thing is also the forecast for the Lower Lakes area (which includes most of Illinois). So hopefully no more ground stops at Midway and O'Hare.

Love the snow or hate it, the Almanac has a solid history of being right but keep an eye on our friends at KWQC for specific short-term forecasts as things like that January snowstorm get closer.
