Spring weather can be the most unpredictable weather we see in the Midwest.  Coats and heaters one day.  Shorts and A/C the next day.  Dry as a bone for weeks.  Then, there is so much rain that we get flooding.

What Illinois can expect for the next 2 months is a bit of the unexpected, depending on where you are in the state.  However, The Farmer's Almanac is predicting one thing for everyone that is not a welcome sight.

The Farmer's Almanac doesn't predict storms but does say a relatively active severe weather season is expected, more so in the Deep South.  But in the spring in Illinois and the Midwest, there will be storms, and some will be severe.

The Farmer's Almanac for spring in general says, "We are moving deeper into Solar Cycle 25, which is expected to reach its maximum around July 2025. High solar activity levels have historically been linked to warmer temperatures, on average, across Earth."

So the sun and a weak La Nina are two main factors when it comes to what we can expect this spring.

Unlike Iowa, which is completely covered by the "warm and dry" portion of the forecast, Illinois is cut into three forecasts.

The first is the western 1/3 of Illinois that stretches from St. Louis to Wisconsin.  This falls into the warm and dry forecast for April and May.

The bottom of Illinois, from STL, across the state, and south, can expect a cool and dry spring.

It's going to be a dry spring.

The rest of Illinois, which covers Chicago and most everything in central and eastern Illinois, will have normal temperatures for spring, but will also be dry.

That's not a good prediction for a state that needs the spring rain to grow billions of dollars in crops.
