NASCAR Cancels Races At Iowa Speedway

While NASCAR returns to racing this Sunday at Darlington Raceway, races won’t be returning to Iowa until 2021.

In a statement from Iowa Speedway:

A NASCAR and Iowa Speedway navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our fans, teams, officials and the entire NASCAR community.  In doing so, the difficult decision has been made by NASCAR to cancel all NASCAR national series races at Iowa Speedway for the 2020 season.

NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer Steve O’Donnell told nascar.com, “We are eager to expand our schedule while continuing to work closely with the local governments in each of the areas we will visit.”

The NASCAR Xfinity Series races were originally scheduled for June 13 and August 1 with a NASCAR Truck series race scheduled for June 12.

The first NXS race scheduled to take place in Iowa has been moved to Homestead-Miami Speedway as NASCAR continues efforts to hold all events this season, in different locations.

Don’t expect a full refund to automatically show up in your account.  If you have tickets, you can request a full refund which may take up to 60 days to process.  Fans may also receive a credit for the full amount plus an additional 20% of the price paid for a 2021 NASCAR event.   Full details available at iowaspeedway.com.

Sunday’s race will be the first time drivers, crews, media and other track personal will be together for an event since March 8^th.  This race, as well as all other scheduled races, will be held without fans in attendance.
