The Halloween holiday, and All Saints Day on November 1, would have marked the halfway point for some of the National Football League teams in the past.

But remember, in 2021, there are now 17 games on the schedule for all 32 teams around the NFL, so we are only just NEARLY at the halfway mark.

Big difference you say, right? Semantics.

Maybe not: that extra game might prove to be very pivotal this year, with teams scrambling for one of the seven playoff spots. Yes, that is correct: remember, the league went to an extra Wild Card to give only the top seed an advantage with the first-weekend bye.

The top of the NFC looks pretty set, with the Arizona Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers already near locks to make the playoffs. That still leaves two teams, though, and we have not even gotten into the wide-open AFC race.

So which teams have been a trick so far in 2021, and which teams have been a treat (you see what I did there, because it is Halloween…)?

Let’s take a look at who you think could win the Super Bowl now (with the benefit of the first seven weeks of the NFL season in the rearview mirror), and some that are pretenders, with the updated Super Bowl odds.

Kansas City Chiefs: Trick

The Super Bowl loser’s curse is in full effect here with the Chiefs, who have fallen all the way down to +1300 with Pointsbet IA on the board to win the Super Bowl. The two-time defending AFC champions look like a shell of their former selves, but there is always the possibility they turn it around in the second half and catch fire. Do I think it happens? No.

Arizona Cardinals: Treat

Unbeaten heading into the final Thursday night game of October, the Cardinals have been outstanding on both sides of the ball, something that will play well in the playoffs. You can still get them at +900, which looks like great value.

San Francisco 49ers: Trick

Two years removed from an NFC title, the 49ers are banged up, and kind of stink. This team at 2-5 heading into Week 8 is not turning it around in the NFC West, with the Rams and Cardinals. San Fran is +6600 right now, which seems about right: they are abject outsiders.

Dallas Cowboys: Treat

America’s Team is back in a big way and is all the way up to +1200 with Iowa sportsbooks to win the Super Bowl. The defense is better, the offense looks back to its best, and Dallas has a shot to win a lot of games in the NFC (L)East. Very live play.

Los Angeles Chargers: Treat

The Chargers are going to be there at the end of the season and might be a factor in the AFC. Right now, they are +1600 to win the Super Bowl, and those could be dropping as we get closer to January.
