For almost 30 years, the Quad Cities has had one major venue where they could see concerts, hockey, football, and more. Since 1993, that venue has had three different names: The MARK of the Quad Cities, the iWireless Center, and the TaxSlayer Center. After being called the TaxSlayer Center for the past 5 years, the Illinois Quad City Civic Center Authority announced the new name where you can continue to see concerts, shows, hockey, and football.

The History Of The MARK/iWireless Center/TaxSlayer Center

Whatever you want to call it, it's been around for quite some time. Opening in May of 1993 as The MARK of the Quad Cities, the 12,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Moline has been the place for people of the Quad Cities and those traveling to our area to enjoy shows, sports, and events. It changed from The MARK to the iWireless Center in 2007 and stayed that way for 10 years until TaxSlayer bought the naming rights. The TaxSlayer Center became the new name of the venue on October 1, 2017, and at the time the deal was set for 10 years. Clearly, there was a clause for TaxSlayer to get out of the contract.

This building has been home to quite a few sports teams and still is. In the sport of hockey, we've seen the Quad City Mallards and Flames play here and now we cheer on the Quad City Storm. The former Quad City Thunder basketball team used to play in this venue for 8 years. The Quad City Steamwheelers call this venue their home stadium for indoor football.

On Thursday, the Illinois Quad City Civic Center Authority announced the new name of the venue, replacing the TaxSlayer Center name and TaxSlayer's sponsorship. The conference started with a video showing the progress of the Quad City Civic Center being built, the naming of The MARK, Neil Diamond being the opening show for the new venue, and more.

Taking effect September 1, 2022, the new name of the Quad City Civic Center downtown Moline is Vibrant Arena at The Mark.

The agreement between the Quad City Civic Center and Vibrant is a 10-year agreement for $4 million, according to Scott Mullen, Executive Director of Vibrant Arena at The MARK, and Vibrant President, Matt McCombs. The deal includes add-on incentives over the course of the next 10 years for Vibrant, according to McCombs.

Mullen talked about the sponsorship ending with TaxSlayer. He said during the press conference,

It was a 10-year agreement with a 7-year out-clause if either party wanted to end it. Then we came through the pandemic and we froze [the contract] for the 16 months we were closed.

Mullen said they had an arrangement with TaxSlayer where if they could find a better deal to let the company know.
