Former Rock Island prep, Brea Beal, helped the number one ranked South Carolina Gamecocks Women's basketball team defeat the number two UCONN Huskies in the final of the inaugural women's Battle 4 Atlantis.

The Gamecocks were down by 13 points at half but cam e out on fire to stifle the Huskies-- including outscoring the  Huskies 16-3 in the fourth, tied for their worst fourth-quarter point differential in five years.

Brea Beal, a starter. played 23 minutes-- scored 6 points and had 4 rebounds and an assist.

South Carolina received all the first place votes in this week's AP Poll and 31 of 32 votes (Stanford) in the Coaches Poll.  Previously, South Carolina was 0-4 in #1 vs #2 matchups-- three of those losses came to UCONN.

UCONN women's program has played more #1 vs #2 matchup in NCAA basketball history and they are 22-4 in those games.

The two teams will face off again this season.  On January 27th they will meet at South Carolina-- game will be on ESPN.
