Every city has its landmarks and icons. For Chicago, it's the Sears Tower (I'll never call it the Willis Tower, sorry not sorry). St. Louis has the Arch. And here in the Quad Cities, we have the Centennial Bridge.

Whether it's daytime or nighttime, the bridge is beautiful. It's a majestic backdrop for any River Bandits game. And now, the bridge has officially been given historic status.

According to the City of Davenport, the city council recommended last week that the Centennial Bridge be placed on the National Register of Historic Places, to subsequently be part of the application for the Downtown Rock Island Historic District.

The City’s Historic Preservation Commission reviewed the application, and agreed that the bridge is "associated with the events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history and that it embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction or represents the work of a master, or possesses high artistic values, or represents a significant and distinguishable entity."
