While many school districts throughout the Quad Cities area are delaying openings or closing on Friday due to extremely cold temperatures, Bettendorf High School and the District Administrative Office are closing today because of a bigger problem.

On Friday, January 7th, school districts in the Quad Cities area, Eastern Iowa, and Western Illinois are delaying the start of classes or closing for the day because of the weather. A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities because of wind chill temperatures reaching down to -25°.

One Quad Cities school closed today because of a much bigger problem.

Friday morning, the Bettendorf Community School District announced that Bettendorf High School (3333 18th St) and the District Administrative Office (3427 18th St #3335) are closed on Friday, January 7th due to a water main break.

School officials said in an announcement on social media and in an email to parents, students, and staff,

"Due to a water main break on 18th St., Bettendorf High School and the District Administrative Offices will be closed today, Friday, Jan. 7. We apologize for any inconvenience. All other Bettendorf schools will follow their normal schedule. Breakfast and lunch will be served. However, there may be adjustments to the menus today due to the closure."

As of now, no other schools in the Bettendorf Community School District are closed and no delays or late starts have been issued for other schools in the district.
